The Society acknowledges the assistance of the Army Medical Directorate and the Sandhurst Foundation in facilitating access to this unique and historic venue.
The Society for Intravenous Anaesthesia welcomes you with great pleasure to the 2011 Annual Conference being held in Sandhurst. This promises to be a truly unique event as it is being held in the Army Medical Directorate, a working military establishment. Given the early involvement of the military in intravenous anaesthesia and the quite remarkable impact that the Defence Medical Services have produced in recent and ongoing operations, it is fitting that the 2011 Conference is being held in a building that commemorates the sacrifices made, in the line of duty, by medical personnel in the Armed Forces over the decades.
The Conference itself will open with a military session aimed at placing in context the considerable contribution that military conflicts have made to the development of intravenous anaesthesia. The rest of the Conference will be, as ever, varied and stimulating ranging from practical applications to emerging issues. Workshops remain a popular feature of the Conference and this year will be no exception.
The Army Medical Directorate is housed in a historic building, formerly the Army Staff College. The building itself dates back to the Crimean War and has a wealth of period detail and several quite irreplaceable military artefacts.
NB: please note that for administrative reasons the closing date for registration will be 15th November 2011, late registrations can not be accepted. Photographic ID is required and only delegates and exhibitors who have registered in advance for the meeting will be permitted access.
